“Arsenic Levels At Bankrupt Frac Sand Mine 7 Times Higher Than State Cleanup Standards”. News article by Rich Kremer, WPR

Southern Red Sands has repeatedly assured the residents of Kanab that its frac sand mine poses no health hazard to the people of Kanab and other nearby towns. Undoubtedly Superior Silica Sands provided similar assurances to the people of Chippewa County Wisconsin before it located a frac sand mine there. The now bankrupt company has closed its mine, but left behind a major hazardous waste site. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources discovered a number of heavy metals at the site and an amount of arsenic that is seven times the safe level. Since the company is bankrupt, it is not clear that it will be contributing any resources towards the clean-up.
