Kanab implemented a dark sky ordinance in 2018 to limit light pollution. The ordinance sets limits on brightness, requires shielding, and keeps colors in the warm white part of the spectrum.
Keep Kanab Unspoiled works to preserve our exceptional night sky. In 2020, we worked with public officials on a sign ordinance to reduce light pollution from business signs. We will continue to oppose attempts to weaken the dark sky regulation.
Dark sky enthusiasts from across the world visit Kanab to observe the starry sky. The local Stellar Vista Observatory group plans to build an observatory in Kanab for local residents and visitors to enjoy and learn about the wonders of the universe.
